Peer Review Policy
The practice of peer review is exercised to ensure that only quality content is published. It is carried out by almost all reputable scientific journals. Every manuscript received goes through the procedure explained below.
Initial Manuscript Evaluation
The Editor first evaluates all manuscripts. None of the papers are accepted at this stage. Manuscripts rejected at this stage may lack originality, have serious scientific shortcomings or do not lie in the scope of the journal. If the paper meets all the requirements, the editor then passes it to usually 3 but at least 2 experts for review.
Type Of Peer Review
Our policy follows both double- and single-blind reviewing method where both, the referee and author, remain anonymous throughout the process or when either the author or referee is not aware of the other’s identity.
Selection Of Referee
Referees are selected for the paper according to their expertise and our reviewer board has a wide range of experts on it. Rarely, when we are unable to find a second expert for the paper, we request the author to suggest the second referee.
Referee’s Reports
Referees are asked to evaluate whether the manuscript: –
- Is original and methodologically sound
- Follows appropriate ethical guidelines
- Has results which are clearly presented and support the conclusions
- Correctly references previous relevant work
Language correction is not expected from the referee but they may suggest corrections to the manuscript. In case the reports by the referees contradict each other, help from a third expert will be sought. The Editor’s decision, with respect to the reports of the referees, will be sent to the author along with the recommendations made by the referee. Revised manuscripts might be returned to the initial referees (if the manuscripts had required major revisions) who may then request another revision of a manuscript.
Usually the authors are given one chance for revision but in some cases the Editor-in-Chief or the editors can make an exception due to the paper being rare, of very high quality, or exceptionally interesting for the readers and allow a third round of review.
How Long Does The Review Process Take?
After a manuscript is submitted, the editor may take a week, at least, for selecting the appropriate reviewers and assigning them their tasks.
The reviewers, in turn, might take a minimum of 2 weeks for carrying out the peer review process, although this is not a definite time period since time required for the review process is dependent on the responses of the referee.
If the article needs revision, the author is given a maximum of 30 days to submit the revised version of the article.
The editor then takes another week for finalizing the manuscript and submitting his/her recommendations to the EIC and the accepted papers are then published.
Final Report
The final decision on the fate of the paper rests with the Editor whereas the referees only advise the editor with their expert opinion. The decision about the acceptance or rejection of the manuscript is sent to the author at this stage, when the peer-review is completed.
